CACAO TECHNO TRAINING

Our techno forums that helped in the awareness of the Filipino Aromatico started in Kabangkalan, Negros Occidental in 2017.

We toured different areas in the country and was invited by different radio stations. It was one of the experiences we held dear to our hearts.

Soon after, Techno Forums happened every weekends so that the farmers and entrepreneurs had free time to attend since they were also employed.

Then the pandemic happened and halted almost everything. Now that our country has lifted the lockdowns, our association decided to lift the veil of precautions to UPLIFT the lives of our fellowmen.

We give credit to our dedicated Ms. Cacao for a new project she started. It is time to continue our advocacy with the launching of the CACAO TECHNO TRAINING.

OBJECTIVE: Reach cacao newbies and seasoned farmers with modern ways of cacao planting.

TARGET MARKET: Students, new to cacao, interested farm owners, budding entrepreneurs using cacao, farmers who need consultancy for their farms, farm owners with grafting requirements for their nurseries using the Filipino Aromatico criollo cacao variety as planting material.

TRANSFER OF KNOWLEDGE: Mediums are face-to-face and self-paced learning.

MATERIALS: PDS Farm Affiliated Best Practice Protocols and PDS Cacao Planting + Women of Cacao Books.

LEAVE BEHINDS: Training Kits, and Certificate of Participation.

The stigma from the COVID-19’s travel bans inspired PDS the value of LOCAL RESPONSIVENESS.

Since PDS have farm affiliates around the country, they will be the ones who will do the techno trainings in their respective farms.

This is the way to entice more participants to attend at the venue/s within their regions. This will also give them the hands-on experience of how fertile the soil in their areas are simply because a fully managed cacao farm is proof of the land’s ability to grow these golden crops.

TECHNO TRAINING SCHEDULES: (as it happens)

JULY 20, 2024, Calbayog Samar, 9-5PM, APOY BENITS AGRICULTURAL FARMING

** Some trainings will be a 2-day event because we will be joined by our Brand Ambassador Executive Chef Christopher Carangian together with his Razorchefs.

What is NEW with PDS?

MEL: Alam mo ba?

🙂. We have published a hardbound book to help cacao farmers understand and appreciate the Criollo and the rest of the cacao varieties.

Not a Happy Meal for Cacao

Hello cacao farmers! Just a few days ago we received an email regarding a pest. How to kill it.

It was not that easy to identify the pest but the first look, this name came out —MEALY BUG.

According to research, keeping your plants “nourished with the right amount of fertilizer and water can help prevent mealybugs. Mealybugs are attracted to over-watered and over-fertilized plants, so make sure your plants drain well and do not overdo their feeding and watering. Keep your plant areas clean and clear of debris.”

Spray with isoprophyl alcohol for instant death but that would be costly. There is cane vinegar available? Use that.

CACAO: Money Tree

The #FilipinoAromatico® has slowly emerged as the most sought after single origin cacao in the Philippines. Thanking old cacao trees that grew in backyards across the country, and harvesting the pods to create hard to replicate nutty tones, the Filipino Aromatico is here to stay.

Did you know that during the 1700s these fruit pod’s beans were used as a currency? Soon after, the indios during that time just planted some seeds all over the place and forgot about it. After several years, it grew and started to bear fruits. The money tree as they have called it, brought business, and food.

Now that the Filipino farmer knows better, a cacao producer association took the initiative to care for these trees which bore GOLD — Plantacion de Sikwate Cacao Producers Association, Inc. (PDS).

From traditional farming techniques, PDS has come up with modern techniques to educate farmers that they too, can grow their own money trees just like of the yesteryears.

More and more cacao farmers who are now enjoying the fruits of their labor has started creating their tablea products. The world awaits of their produce. The world knows that the Philippines is indeed a single-origin country when it comes to CACAO.

Be a farmer, call us for assistance, and in no time, harvest from your Filipino Aromatico money trees.
