Close to 50 participants attended the Bagac Bataan Cacao Techno Forum last February 28, 2017. This was the last “month of love” forums for Plantacion de Sikwate.

It was indeed a high-spirited batch of farmers! We would like to thank you for attending and sharing your cacao adventures with the group.

#TeamPDS would like to thank the Mr. Guillermo Bantugan for sponsoring the venue and food. Without the support of Bagac Municipality, Provincial Agriculturist, National Program Coordinator, Ms. Jennifer Remoquillo, OIC, HVCDP, Mr. Fernando Lorenzo, HVCDP Regional Coordinator and Mr. Oscar Oliva, Provincial HVCDP Coordinator for Bataan, this forum will not be possible without you. Maraming salamat po!

COCOA NURSERY MANUAL: Best Nursery Practices

PLANT PRODUCTION AND NURSERY OPERATIONS FOR COCOA NURSERIES IN THE PHILIPPINES. (EDITION No. 1)

The following manual is based on preferred or best nursery practices, developed for SUCCESS Alliance in Asia. These practices will be relevant to many countries according to available materials, resources and budgets. This current manual draws heavily from the Cocoa Nursery Manual of SUCCESS Alliance Vietnam, September 2007, but with modifications for the conditions and practices as used in the Philippines. It will be used to guide cocoa plant production under the CoCoPAL Program funded by the USDA. It is intended to update it regularly, as new data and practices are uncovered.

Cocoa Beans Industry Quality Requirements Apr 2016

Cocoa Beans

Whatever the genetic background of the trees producing the cocoa, the development of flavour is also dependent on correct fermentation and drying procedures, and further processing steps such as roasting, alkalisation or conching. All types of cocoas can suffer from several off-flavours and these are described below, along with the method of assessment or detection. The causes of the off-flavours, and guidance on good practices are discussed in here. Silay Highlands Cacao Adventure

imageimage imageimagePDS President Chris Fadriga was with Manong Dolping, PDS interim Vice-President for Negros Occidental the other day.image imageHe recounts that part of ‘nong Dolping’s  2000 plus cacao seedlings planted about 3 years ago have started to produce pods and will start to harvest a few pods soon.

Planting materials came from seeds of old cacao trees just around the Barrio of Patag.

“We would like to see some Fino Aromatico trees from them.” Mr. Fadriga confidently said.

He also started to do side grafting some for the heirloom cacao giving the white beans.
