[It is to be remembered that] the BARBDC is a project of the Agrarian Reform Community (ARC) Development Strategy adopted in 1993 to focus on priority agrarian reform areas to maximize resource allocation, complementation, and mobilization for greater efficiency and impact taking into consideration the limited financial and material resources of the government. These cluster of contiguous barangays within a municipality where majority of the CARP-covered lands have been awarded to a critical mass of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs).  The ARC strategy applies the integrated area development approach where the ARBs and their communities are the primary focal points of development interventions. (source:Department of Agrarian Reform)

Cacao Planters Manual

E.J. Bartelink writes that there is surely no agricultural production that requires more care, trouble, patience, perseverance and outlay, than the cacao, but against this it may be stated that, in case of success, no product can be mentioned that yields greater profits, while these will go on increasing prodigiously from year to year. It is a fact, and of this there are abundant proofs, that in Surinam Cacao-plantations exist, each representing by itself an immense fortune, and which descending as an heirloom from generation to generation, after a long course of years with constant good care, have not only not lost a jot of their original value, but have rather increased in productiveness. It is of the utmost importance for the cacao-planter, if he would succeed in his enterprise, to have a guide to go by and rule his proceedings. <this is a good read for cacao planting aficionados)

Cacao Insects Research Philippines 1904

Up to the present time so far as search has revealed very little has been published upon the subject of economic entomology in the Philippine Islands. In the several admirable works on the entomology of the Archipelago^ we find not only that the economic side has been entirely neglected, but also that the same thing is true from the biological standpoint. <the research is clickable through here>

PDS Training Camp Update: 1/26/17

I would like to sing Strawberry Fields Forever by the Beatles but after visting the nursery this morning and stayed to watch the sunset, I got amazed at nature’s magnificence and how the universe brought everything together at the right place and at the right time.

Having a flat land, you need to think of ways to supply your seedlings with the right nourishment. Yes, sunshine is good, the soil is fertile but what about the water?

At the back of the nursery water supply is abundant. This was the perfect time to place irrigation water lines in preparation of summer.

imageTeam PDS Antipuluan hand-in-hand made the work run smoothly and  successfully. Soon after, they were chatting and laughing as they continued grafting.

After a long day, I sit back and thank the heavens for the blessings showered upon us. As I have continously adviced new members visiting or  helping at the farm, there will be enough sunshine to help us through when you are around. With a solid team of passionate people, this piece of land will soon have the GOLDEN BEANS forever.
